History Of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom
The Magic Kingdom was Disney's second theme park, opening October 1, 1971. For many years, this park was the only main attraction within the Walt Disney World Center. The percentage of people refer to it as "Disney World, or just plain Disney." In 1982 Epcot Center was added and than came the Disney-MGM Studios in 1989 and nine years later followed Disney's Animal Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom in Orlando has mostly the same layout as California's Disneyland, but Orlando has a greater deal of land to work with.
When Disney was first built, there was a series of utility corridors, covered them with dirt excavated from the man-made Seven Seas Lagoon, and then the Magic Kingdom was erected on top of this great mound of soil. Today, the "utilidors," or underground tunnels, connect all lands in the Magic Kingdom, allowing cast members to never be caught out of place with the wrong costume on.
